Alexander Nalevanko

I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Neuroscience from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, studying linear systems in communication and control, aeronautical engineering, ceramics, entrepreneurship, creativity and invention and advanced manufacturing. I was a Teaching Assistant in the Engineering Modeling and Design Lab. On the Society of Automotive Engineers Formula Racecar Project, I optimized suspension system components and was Logistics Team Leader, securing new corporate funding and transforming the effort into a multidisciplinary capstone showcase for the university. I joined Dr. Leik Myrabo’s trans-atmospheric vehicle design team where we collaborated on the NASA and NSF funded Microwave and Laser Lightcraft Projects. I made the Dean’s List, successfully completed the exclusive Professional Leadership Program, and the Michelin Leadership Training Program, worked with two top GE PhDs from MIT to develop a business plan for a technology startup company, designed a shower temperature control system, won the Rensselaer Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award, was President of the Rensselaer Glee Club, and the Rensselyrics, and also trained as a pilot with the Rensselaer Aeronautics Federation. While earning my Finance MBA at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business, I studied Corporate Finance under former SEC Chairman Ken Lehn. I won the Brosius Creativity Award for website design, was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society, and participated in the American Assembly Dialogue, alongside CEOs of major US Corporations. I completed a Master of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Duquesne University with a perfect 4.0 GPA, later adding a series of graduate level classes in Meteorology, Oceans, Weather and Climate.

I worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Utah and designed, built, tested and supervised the installation of a first-of-a-kind fully-automated material splicing unit for diaper manufacturing machines, later sharing the mechanical drawings, and preparing an installation and training package for replication across the United States and Canada. My solution replaced hand-thrown splices with PLC controlled pneumatics, saving time, material, and money and meeting our goal of reducing splice-related injuries. I also represented Infant Care Engineering on the plant safety team. I spent several months studying and documenting airflow and motor performance for plant-wide HVAC air handling and production air systems. I logged more than 500 hours converting hand-drafted machine parts and assemblies into CAD. I also designed leg elastic applicator retrofits to support the nationwide Huggies Supreme product rollout. Those were the very first diapers with Velcro tabs.

I was a Lead Preschool Teacher, a K-12 substitute teacher, and a long-term substitute in two small rural Junior-Senior High Schools. I became a contract teacher in a suburban public school district, later earning full tenure along with permanent certifications in mathematics and physics. I wrote curriculum, served on the accreditation team, and on the Strategic Planning Committee as the only non-director member and volunteer. I taught everything from Intro to AP and delivered Homebound Instruction, Alternative Ed, Summer School, Online Academy, Private Tutoring, Regular Ed, Co-Taught and Inclusion, and provided 1-on-1 physics instruction to several special education teachers. I completed a graduate-level Master Teacher program, was recognized as an NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher, was one of two educators selected to be regularly observed integrating technology to qualify the district for a massive technology grant. I sponsored the Drama Club, chose and directed the Spring Play, coached Girls Lacrosse and sponsored the Mathletes Club, the Japanese Club, the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute, served as a senior project mentor, judged weekly National Forensics League competitions, and coached several speech and debate students all the way to the National Tournament in Houston, Texas. Four of my physics students were recognized by the Governor and Legislature for a safe driving PSA that they produced for my class, that broadcast statewide on the radio.

I was a Councilman in Emsworth, PA, where I served as President of Council and Finance Committee Chairman. I directed the Public Works and Personnel Departments and was directly involved in every aspect of operations, supervising employees and other elected officials. For six years, I collaborated with our Treasurer to build the annual budget. During my time in office, we replaced two bridges, and I wrote and negotiated contracts with the police, firemen, and more. When legislation created the Allegheny North Tax Collection District, forcing 12 school districts and 48 municipalities in our area to consolidate and automate earned income tax collection and disbursement, I volunteered to represent Emsworth as their Delegate, and was later elected to the committee’s 3-member Audit Team and Executive Board. I also represented Emsworth as elected Delegate to the Quaker Valley Council of Governments Board of Directors. In addition to negotiating a multi-year, multi-municipality refuse contract, managing shared resources, and developing a regional strategic plan, QVCOG was the vehicle for facilitating and directing millions of dollars in Community Development Block Grant funding for our member municipalities. I also served as Mayor of Emsworth.

I wrote my first computer program on an Apple Macintosh in 6th grade, later moving to DOS, then to UNIX on a mainframe for systems modeling and analysis using Matlab, Pro/Engineer and Advanced Computer Simulation Language. In addition to loving spreadsheets and mastering word processing, I earned the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer + Internet designation with certifications in TCP/IP, Internet Information Server, SQL Server, and Windows Operating Systems. As a Technical Specialist and Network Management Integration Specialist at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, I managed an enterprise-wide migration project, decommissioning about 20 department-level servers and moving more than 1000 nodes, including production and productivity applications and users on a hybrid topology network to a new common operating environment on a server farm. As a senior network administrator over several departments, I resolved the most complicated issues, and developed a tracking system to facilitate training and direct a more efficient, appropriate and targeted deployment of personnel. I also facilitated and automated Goodyear’s “Global Learning Lab.” At the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center at Carnegie Mellon University, I collaborated with a team of scientists, engineers and educators to explore the integration of computational models, methods and systems into the classroom, later implementing a facilitated CBT approach to remediating student math performance.

At IBM, I managed the financials for over $200 Million in IT Outsourcing Contracts in the Manufacturing and Utilities Industries in IBM’s North Geoplex, including audit support, invoicing, forecasting, reporting, tracking and controlling both cost and revenue. I worked directly with and was accountable to senior executives who relied on my accurate, actionable and timely analysis including FTEs, headcount, and dollars. This included all executives, managers, engineers, developers, technicians, analysts, and operators at all band levels. There were service level agreements - along with penalties and bonuses, milestone payments, software and user license agreements and fees, salaries, wages, benefits, and even expense reimbursements. As a fiduciary for one of the world’s most scrutinized publicly traded companies, I was legally responsible for accurate reporting, establishing and tracking accounts in the general ledger, and journaling when necessary to properly characterize everything before quarterly financial results could be reported to Wall Street. In addition to weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual budgeting and reporting, I was also responsible for developing and presenting a detailed 10-year financial outlook and for providing financial input to a comprehensive disaster recovery planning process. I personally priced 20 million dollars in signed new business.

I am an Eagle Scout, and a Life Member of the Alstead Historical Society.

I was born in New England, and 14 members of my family now call New Hampshire home, including my parents here in Alstead and two of my sisters and their families who raise animals including chickens and Shetland sheep. Two nephews and a niece attend Fall Mountain. I have seen much of the United States and a lot of the World, living in some of the largest metropolitan areas, including Hong Kong, Washington, DC, New York City, London, England and Tokyo, Japan. And I do speak some Japanese.
